Susan O'Brien, MD is at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is Professor of Medicine at UC Irvine. Dr. O'Brien is section editor for the journal, Cancer and is an internationally recognized leader in the research of treatments for both chronic and acute leukemias and an acknowledged expert on several important treatments that are presently used as the “standard of care” for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). She has been intimately involved with clinical research that has led to many key discoveries which have advanced the understanding and treatment of the disease.
Dr. O’Brien is involved with multiple professional organizations such as the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Association for Cancer Research. She is the Hematology member of the SWOG Executive Committee. She has authored and co-authored over 900 peer reviewed articles published in New England Journal of Medicine, Blood, Cancer, Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and other journals.
Dr. O'Brien is also on the Board of Directors of the CLL Society.
